  • From Perryville, Arkansas.
  • A songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose songs have been recorded by Garth Brooks (“Two Pina Coladas”), Brooks and Dunn (“How Long Gone”), George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton, Josh Turner (“Would You Go With Me”), Patty Loveless, Randy Travis, Del McCoury, Ricky Skaggs, many others.
  • As a teenager, played in several bands including the Grand Prairie Boys and Signal Mountain (playing fiddle).
  • 1987, moved to Nashville and joined the Osborne Brothers, playing fiddle for about six months. He then started his solo career and began writing songs for himself and other country artists.
  • 1991, signed with Reprise Records. Released several singles and one self-titled album, produced by Emory Gordy Jr.
  • 2001, released Lucky Silver Dollar album (Skeeterbit).
  • 2004, recorded a live bluegrass album at the Station Inn in Nashville, Live at the Station Inn (Oh Boy Records).
  • 2007, he and rockabilly singer Billy Burnette released an album called The Bluegrass Elvises featuring bluegrass covers of Elvis Presley hits.
  • 2007, worked with Loretta Lynn writing songs and recording several albums together.
  • 2013, was an original member of the Flatt and Scruggs tribute band The Earls of Leicester, playing the part of Lester Flatt.
  • 2017, won his second IBMA Award for Male Vocalist of the Year (he also won in 2015).
