DANIEL GRINDSTAFF

  • From Elizabethton, Tennessee.
  • Began playing banjo at age 12. His father played banjo with Carl Story’s Rambling Mountaineers.
  • 2001-2004, at age 18 joined Jim and Jesse’s Virginia Boys. He was the last banjo player to work with both Jim and Jesse. He continued to work with Jesse McReynolds after Jim’s passing.
  • 2004-2006, joined the Osborne Brothers playing banjo when Sonny had shoulder surgery. He continued to work with Bobby after Sonny retired.
  • 2006-2012, worked with Marty Raybon and Full Circle.
  • 2007, released a solo project April’s Fool (no label).
  • 2012-2018, left professional music to stay home with his family. He also has an insurance agency in Elizabethton, Tennessee.
  • 2018, formed a band with Tim Raybon (Marty’s brother) called Merle Monroe, later to become the Tim Raybon Band.
  • 2024, released solo project Heroes and Friends (Bonfire).
